Diversity and Inclusion

In the education sector, there is an established tradition of acknowledgement of and support for specific equity groups that from time to time include, or have included:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• people from lower socio-economic backgrounds
• people with disability
• people from remote, rural or isolated areas
• people who are the first in their family to attend a university or other higher educational institution
• people from non-English speaking backgrounds
• women, especially in areas of study where they have been under-represented
• people who identify as LGBTQ+

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of who we are and central to our mission. We believe that when people feel respected and included they can be more creative, innovative, and successful. We know that having varied perspectives helps generate better ideas to solve the complex problems of a changing and diverse world. We recognise our responsibility to foster an open, welcoming environment where students, faculty, staff and visitors of all backgrounds can collaboratively learn and work.
