COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Digital Media course prepares students to lead in digitally agile and ever evolving media environments.
Students learn to apply the principles of leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation within organisations, navigate the legal, governance and ethical challenges found in professional environments, utilise new technologies and media for entrepreneurial ventures, and use data analytics and metrics to inform decision making within organisations.
Students research and write stories for nonfiction genres and platforms and explore a wide range of journalism topics including the media landscape, news values and the editorial process, structure, and storytelling. Seminars are run as ‘editorial workshops’ with industry guest speakers discussing their trade including current trends and opportunities for journalists, editors, bloggers, and publishers.
Students develop a portfolio of written, video, audio, photographic material as part of their studies and undertake supervised research projects. They also have an opportunity to complete, as an elective, the Leadership Immersion (internship) or Leadership Mentorship unit.
The course employs authentic learning tasks, real-world scenarios and case studies, lab workshops and client-based projects to provide students with hands-on experiences.
